Remember when I mentioned I had some big news to share? I finally remembered to sit down and tell you. As most of you will know I have been doing photography as a part-time job while I still worked my "real" job. It has been an awesome job and I wouldn't changed anything if I had the chance. It will be almost 5 years that I worked there.
At the end of February, my husband and I discussed the possibility of me moving toward becoming a full-time photographer and quitting my other job. After some long discussion and weighing pros and cons we've decided to make the move for it. Starting May 1st I will be a full-time employee of Tamara Kenyon Photography. I gave a 2+ month notice at my job to give them a big window to find someone to take my position.
I've gotten to the point that I'm so busy with photography that I've topped out and have been having to reject jobs because of a time constraint. The schedule has effected not only me, but my husband as well. On a normal day I would get up early to go to work (a full 8 hours), attend a couple classes in that mix and then come home and finish editing photos or homework. Nowhere in that equation do you see "spend time with the husband". It isn't a bad temporary schedule but considering I wouldn't be graduating till Spring to Fall 2010 it wasn't as temporary as we would have liked.
Though I won't make a ton of money my first year, it gives me the opportunity to spend more time on getting my business to where I would like it to be and gives me the extra time to spend with my husband. This also gives me a little extra time to focus on finishing my degree. I've been stringing it along since 2004 and this schedule change pretty much guarantees that I will graduate in Spring 2011.
I could tell you all the pros to this decision, but it would take me a while. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time to be taking this risk and the closer I get the more confident I feel.
Wish me luck!
