I'm a huge advocate for the first look. I'm soooooo sad I didn't do one with my husband. If I could turn back time I'd do a first look. Anyway, 90% of my brides opt for the first look and I think it's a great way to have that special moment with their grooms.
I'd asked Amy to give me her experience from the first look.
I loved the first look because it was such a special moment, different then I expected and it was just us - so I wasn't nervous because all the guests were staring at me, it was just that anticipation type of nerves, adrenaline almost. It was just him and me. And Joe could react however he wanted to - he didn't need to be stoically standing with our officiant. The first look allowed us to really gather ourselves and actually made us less nervous about walking down the aisle and speaking in front of 200+ people. Also, it made me feel so beautiful and special because Joe was able to say all the things he was thinking when he first saw me. He told me how beautiful I looked over and over and we were able to just be stunned for a while. I cried a little, which got it out of my system (kind of), and Joe held me because it was so cold outside (shout out to winter weddings!) We comforted and complimented each other and got to take all our formal pictures before the actual wedding. Now that you know Joe and my personalities a little better, we didn't want to take pictures after the wedding, we wanted to get to the party as soon as we could! This allowed so much more time to work the room and say hi to family and friends that we hadn't talked to yet, thank everyone for coming, and just mingle. I didn't feel stressed, time-wise, and was actually able to relax and just have fun. We think the guests really appreciated it too. Everything at our wedding was perfect, including the first look!
